Blackjack Variations on a Theme

There are spin-offs of almost any pop culture phenomenon…or perhaps more than one spin-off. Just look at any television schedule and you will see: there are versions of the Next Top Model series in more than 30 countries all over the world, and too many Star Trek shows to even keep count, etc. Just to name a few, that is. The same is true in the world of casino gaming. Every game has at least one spin-off game, or often even variations on a game that still bear the original name, often with the name of the place or of the new style preceding it. Also, within any one game, there are often multiple betting patterns. Blackjack is one of those games that have multiple betting systems.

Blackjack Betting Systems

The Paroli Betting System A list of the Blackjack betting systemscontains at least 5 different systems. The first of those betting systems is called the Paroli System. According to the Paroli System, the player starts off by betting one unit. If the player wins that bet, he or she then increases the amount being wagered with each successive bet. The player using the Paroli System may increase the bet with each win as much as he or she likes, and return to the original bet at any point. In other words, if you have set yourself a definite betting limit, and you reach it using this system, you may easily revert to your original bet.

The Parlay Betting System

The second of the betting systems is called the Parlay Betting System, and is often also known as the "Let It Ride" betting system. Like the Paroli Betting System, this system employs a positive progression of the player's bets. Banks often use a system similar to this one when working out interest strategies. This system is often also used in horse racing. According to the Parlay Betting System, the player sets an original bet, and then - as the player continues to win - the player bases the next bet on the original amount and the winnings from that amount.

The 1-3-2-6 Betting System

The third betting system is called the 1-3-2-6 Betting System. As its name might give away, this system is based on the concept of winning four bets in a row. The bet begins with one unit, and then goes to 3, to 2, and then to 6 units. In other words, if your first bet is $5.00, and you win it, you then place $30.00 on the table. You then take back $20.00 and by the end of the fourth bet, you have $60.00. At this point, you may choose to go back to the beginning and start again.

The Martingale Betting System

The fourth system is called the Martingale Betting System. This system, in contrast to all of the others, is a negative betting system. That is, it is based on the concept of losing a succession of bets in a row. According to this system, the player begins with betting one unit, and then continues to bet one unit. If you lose at this point, you double the bet. You then continue to double your bet as you continue to lose - the idea being that eventually you will win it all.

The Labouchere Betting System

The fifth and last of these betting systems is called the Labouchere Betting System. This bet is also known as a Crossout, Labby, Cancellation, or Split Martingale. This betting system is also a negative progressive betting system; The player writes down a series of numbers on a piece of paper - any series of numbers, and then proceeds to bet the sum of first of those numbers and the last of those numbers. If the player wins the bet, he or she then crosses out those numbers and repeats the process with the next two numbers on either end of the series.
