Winning Real Money with Blackjack
It is not difficult to understand why casino games are set up to give the house the advantage. If this were not the case, it would hardly be financially worthwhile to open casinos. The game of online blackjack is no exception; however, despite the house advantage, it is still possible to use strategy to turn the odds slightly in favor of the player. Though no strategy is foolproof, here are a few tips to gain an advantage and perhaps win at real money blackjack.
In real money blackjack casinos, the reason the odds are stacked in favor of the house, is because the players must either stand or bust before the dealer begins playing his hand. Any time a player has cards that have a value greater than 11, the player risks busting (going over 21) when taking a hit. The house is really hoping the player will bust without the dealer having to take a hit.
Basic Strategy for Real Money Blackjack Wins
When playing blackjack for real money, it is worth following basic blackjack strategy. Here are some tips to help:
Since the dealer can't stand on anything less than 17, the dealer has the same risk of busting with a hand higher than 11 as any player with the same hand. Furthermore, if the dealer's hand shows 15 or 16, the dealer still must take another hit. In such a case, the house has far more than a 50-percent chance of busting.
If your hand is 11 or lower, there is no risk of busting. So, take a hit.
If your hand is 12 or higher and the dealer's card is not a 10, Jack, Queen, or King, stand. If the house is showing a 10-point card, there is a strong chance the dealer has another 10-point card in the hole (the card facing down). In such a case, if a player is holding 12 or 13, it is usually worth the risk to take another hit.
The logic in this strategy is that at 12, sixteen out of fifty-two cards from each deck will cause the hand to bust. With each increase in value, the risk increases. Forcing the dealer to take a hit increases the house's risk of busting.
If the player's hand is between 9 and 11, there is no risk of busting from a single hit. Therefore, it may be worth trying to double down and see if you can force the dealer to bust. This strategy will not work every time, but in an informal test of forcing the dealer to take a hit, the house busted 22-percent of the time.
